A hotel bouncer in Melbourne is expected to be charged over an attack on former Test
player and Victorian cricket coach DAVID HOOKES - who's in a critical condition in hospital.

HOOKES was technically dead when ambulance paramedics began treating him after the
attack outside the Beaconsfield Hotel in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda at 11.45 last
night.

He has serious head injuries and is in a coma at the Alfred Hospital.
