NSW: League players interviewed over sexual assault allegations

SYDNEY, Aug 13 AAP - Penrith rugby league winger Robbie Beckett has been interviewed by
detectives investigating a sexual assault case after his western Sydney home was searched by
police yesterday.

Beckett's manager Peter Lord told AAP today that the footballer gave a statement to police
as a witness to the case last night.

But Mr Lord said Beckett was not a suspect in the case.

He confirmed police had searched Beckett's Glenmore Park home, but denied Beckett was
implicated in the sexual assault allegations.

Three other Penrith rugby league players are being interviewed by police today in relation
to the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl.

Penrith Leagues Club spokesman Rob Weaver said he expected to make an official club
statement about the investigation later today.

But Mr Weaver last night said no charges had been laid and he understood the players had
been asked to tender witness statements on their whereabouts during the alleged assault.

Mr Weaver said the players were not suspects.

A joint investigative team with local officers and those from the NSW Child Protection
Enforcement Agency (CPEA) swooped on the Glenmore Park home at 1pm (AEST) yesterday.

Senior police sources have confirmed a search warrant was executed following allegations
the girl was sexually assaulted and supplied with drugs at the premises last Saturday.
