QLD:Long-time Labor MP still hopeful

BRISBANE, Aug 22 AAP - Labor incumbent Arch Bevis has not given up hope of holding
onto the seat of Brisbane.

The Liberal National Party's Teresa Gambaro received a healthy swing of 5.28 per cent
to give her a narrow lead of about one per cent over Mr Bevis, the Australian Electoral
Commission says.

But with postal and absentee votes still to be counted, Mr Bevis says the seat is still
too close to call.

"It's difficult but we're still in there," he told ABC radio.

"We're about 800 votes behind but there's about 6000 or 7000 yet to be counted and
I think we ran a very good postal vote campaign, so we'll have to wait to see what happens."
