Vic: Father jailed for stabbing wife's friend
A Melbourne man who stabbed his wife's friend in a drunken rage .. then challenged
police to kill him .. will spend at least three years in jail.
KARL ANTHONY MUNSTER has been sentenced to a maximum of four years and nine months
jail by the Victorian Supreme Court.
He's pleaded guilty to intentionally causing serious injury and aggravated burglary.
The court's heard the 44-year-old believed TONY CAMPBELL and his wife were encouraging
his own wife .. TRACEY MUNSTER .. to become more independent and were destroying his marriage.
Drunk and armed with a knife .. MUNSTER confronted his wife and the CAMPBELLS on March
4 last year at a Pakenham house .. in Melbourne's outer east.
He threatened them .. and after an argument stabbed TONY CAMPBELL in the stomach.
Justice BETTY KING said Mr CAMPBELL lost a gall bladder in the attack.
After stabbing Mr CAMPBELL .. MUNSTER went into the street where he begged police to kill him.
Justice KING said MUNSTER was a daily user of marijuana .. and the collapse of his
marriage led him to begin drinking heavily.
She said MUNSTER didn't initially intend to harm Mr CAMPBELL .. but to get his wife's
attention and sympathy.
Justice KING has sentenced him to four years' jail for intentionally causing serious
injury and 18 months for aggravated burglary .. nine months of which is to be served at
the same time as the first sentence.
She's set a minimum parole period of three years.
